A GROUP of singers in Winchester recreated an old English tradition - singing in the May.
Nothing unusual in that, particularly in the historic city. What was unusual was the location. The top of the cathedral tower.
The organisers feared the weather at 7.30am yesterday would be cold and wet. In fact it dawned a clear and sunny morning.
The 12-strong choir, led by Reg Fletcher, with a dozen spectators, trooped up the steps to the tower to sing a selection of old English carols.
Co-organiser Chris Tulk said: "It was the most exciting thing to happen in Winchester in the early morning that I have ever seen. A group of some 150 French visitors were walking across the green when the singing started. They were stunned!"
