EMMA WEEKS broke new ground for women golfers in Hampshire when she finished tied second in the Southwick Park Pro-Am.
In a week when the ladies made the headlines for being allowed to try to qualify for the British Open, Weeks, from the Fleming Park Club in Eastleigh, beat many of the Hampshire PGA's leading men, including their own current Open champion, David Porter.
Another former Hampshire Open champion, Mark Treleaven, won in difficult conditions at Southwick Park with a one-over 70 followed by a four-way tie for second place between Emma, Andrew Cloke (Weybrook Park), Charlie Gold (Tidworth) and Jamie Green (Portsmouth Golf Centre), who carded 72s.
Emma had a fine career as an amateur, winning the county title and finishing second in English Strokeplay Championship at Stoneham.
