HAMPSHIRE PGA won the annual Pinflag Golf Events Salver for the first time when they beat their amateur counterparts 6-4 at Blackmoor on Sunday.
The crucial game turned out to be the very first one between Blackmoor professional Steve Clay and the Hampshire number one Ryan Henley, winner of the Selbourne Salver just two weeks ago.
Clay stormed five up by the turn but Stoneham clubman Henley mounted a tremendous fightback which left the Blackmoor pro having to hole a testing four-foot putt at the 18th for a one-hole victory.
Hampshire Union captain Kevin Weeks again led by example, beating one of the PGA's most successful players of the last ten years, left-hander Kevin Saunders from Walhampton.
The youngest member of the amateur side, Lee-on-the-Solent's Sam Hutsby, followed up his victory in last week's Courage Trophy by beating former Hampshire Open champion Russell Tate.
Dummer's Steve Archibald chalked up another success for the amateurs against the most experienced of the Hampshire professionals, Gary Stubbington from Hockley.
But Hampshire Open champion David Porter led a determined PGA fightback as he outwitted Jon Young from Brokenhurst Manor.
Lee left-hander James Ablett beat Stoneham's Andy Bow, the new PGA captain Philip Bryden did his bit with a victory over Royal Winchester youngster Chris Kilgannon, and Hampshire's former Challenge Tour winner Rob Edwards was too strong for another Stoneham youngster, Sam Boyes.
The professionals completed their victory march as Mark Treleaven and Chris Hudson halved their matches with Blackmoor's Steve Mitchell and county youth champion Jon Watt respectively.
