HARRY REDKNAPP praised his players' character after Saints had dragged themselves "off the floor" to leap out of the relegation zone.

Redknapp said: "We've done great and they've showed terrific character.

"I had to make some changes at half-time because we were all over the place at the back. We give goals away but they did us proud in the end and we got a great result."

It was only Saints' sixth league win of the season - and only their 11th in 57 matches stretching back to Boxing Day 2003 - but the timing could hardly be better.

Redknapp added: "It can all change so quickly. It's all to play for still. I couldn't tell you what it's going to take to stay up. You might need one win, two wins, one win and a draw. I wouldn't like to guess.

"When I first came here we went to Tottenham and got beat by five and I thought 'if we're still in it with three games to go I'll be quite pleased.'

"That's how it's turned out, it's been a struggle from day one. But we've played some great football here."

Redknapp continued: "How would we have been had we'd been beaten? We'd have been relegated. Finished.

"But we're still in there scrapping. At half-time, having given away a goal like that, we were on the floor. They were on the front foot.

"Then we brought Camara on and lost our shape.

"The good thing is we scored with three minutes to go. If there would have been ten left anything could have happened, I promise you!"

Saints Under 18s finished their title-winning academy league campaign with a 3-2 defeat against Leicester at Staplewood.

Sean Rudd's own goal gave the visitors an early lead but Saints hit back thanks to Josh Dutton-Black's lob and Tim Sparv's cool finish.

It was only Saints' third loss of a group A-winning campaign and they travel to Blackburn next Saturday for the FA Premier Academy League play-off semi final.

The winners will host either Newcastle or Coventry in the final on Wednesday May 11.
