GRAEME LE SAUX says the match that featured his first Premiership goal for Saints will live long in the memory.
The former England wing-back's first Premiership goal since his summer move from Chelsea two years ago gave Saints a 3-2 lead that was cruelly taken away from them with the last kick of the first half.
But after Henri Camara's late winner, Le Saux was able to savour his second goal for the club.
Le Saux, who has started 42 Premiership games for Saints, netted in a League Cup win at Bristol City 18 months ago.
But his clinical volley against Norwich was his first in the Premiership since his last goal for Chelsea - against Charlton at Stamford Bridge in January 2003.
It was certainly one to remember. It followed a Peter Crouch header and Nigel Quashie's instant lay-off - and could not have been better timed.
Le Saux, who played on the left flank, said: "I don't score many, there are usually a few 'oohs' as the ball goes past the post when I hit it.
"But when you play in midfield you're entitled to have the odd shot and it was a great touch from Nigel, he made a run into the box and set it back to me and I struck it fairly well.
"It was the sort of game you play football for. And with the crowd the way they were it is a memory that will stay with me for a while."
Le Saux was reminded of a footballing classic during the thrill and spills of the relegation tussle against Norwich.
"It was like the England v Argentina game in France '98 because it was end to end and so frenetic.
"We came off the pitch absolutely exhausted, the first goal could have been a devastating blow psychologically, coming so early on.
"It could have really put our chins down and our heads on the floor but we picked ourselves up, we felt confident going forward and at times we played some wonderful football.
"When we had possession the back four passed the ball with composure as well and we deservedly got back into the game.
"But it was a crazy match involving an incredible turn of events."
There are sure to be more twists to come between now and the final whistle against Manchester United - but all minds are now focused on Saturday's trip to Crystal Palace.
Le Saux added: "This was a game we had to win and fortunately we showed enough character and quality, especially in the dying seconds, to give us another chance on Saturday.
"The situation we're in now is no different to before the Norwich game other than the fact that we're in with another chance, and we have to make that count as well.
"This is just one hurdle down, we've got two more to go but hopefully the spirit from today's game will count for a lot as well."
