HAMPSHIRE cricket has now applied for planning permission to stage the concert by Oasis at the Rose Bowl in West End.
Last month, the Daily Echo revealed that despite selling out the venue to 35,000 Oasis fans, the club had yet to apply for planning consent to host the July 6 event.
Now an Eastleigh Council spokesman has confirmed that the borough has received an application seeking temporary relief of planning conditions to allow open-air concerts for up to 35,000 spectators to be staged at the Rose Bowl for a maximum of four occasions within two years.
He said: "It will cover Oasis and three other events in the next two years."
Two years ago, the cricket club caused controversy when it held its first large-scale concert by chart-topping boy band Blue.
It was refused permission by Eastleigh Council to hold the concert but was granted an entertainment licence, which covered issues with noise, health and safety, fire and police regulations.
Despite this the Rose Bowl hosted a two-day music extravaganza with Blue and other music acts such as Darius, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Following the 2003 concert, the council decided not to penalise the club in favour of working together with local residents and council planners to get the most from the venue in the future.
The application to cover the Oasis concert is due to be decided at a meeting of the borough's Hedge End, West End and Botley Local Area Committee on June 13.
Meanwhile, the council says the planning bid - which includes details about noise and traffic management - can be viewed at Eastleigh's Civic Offices and West End Parish Centre during office hours.
The spokesman added: "The Rose Bowl will be preparing an information bulletin which will be circulated to local residents and will be available from the West End Parish Centre in Chapel Road, and Hedge End Town Council Offices, at the 2000 Centre in St Johns Road."
