STAFF from an electronics engineering firm have been mentoring students at Totton College as part of an engineering education scheme.
Run by the Royal Academy of Engineering, the scheme gives sixth form students an opportunity to work with local companies for up to six months to gain experience in problem -solving, project management and team work.
Roke Manor Research, developers of electronic engineering technology, set students a challenge to come up with a wireless fire alarm system.
Engineer David Thomas, who mentored the students through the scheme said: "This was a challenging and demanding project which the students approached with enthusiasm, intelligence, hard work and a good sense of fun alongside their A-level studies."
