THE champagne stays on ice for Division 3 champions-elect Colden Common after Hayling United kept alive their faint title hopes with a 4-0 home win against Laverstock & Ford.
Common have finished their season with 88 points, while Hayling have ploughed through their fixture backlog to climb into second spot - six points behind Common with two games left.
However Common's goal difference is significantly better than Hayling's to such an extent that the Portsmouth club would have to win their final two games against top-eight sides Tadley and Fleetlands by a 14-goal margin.
"It's not realistic to expect to beat both those sides 7-0, but we're definitely gunning for the runners-up spot and, if we can make Common sweat, then we will," smiled Hayling secretary Rob Mogg.
Two-goal Tom Chapman, Jack Salter-Vaille and Dave Goldring netted for Hayling, who have applied to the SWL for promotion this season.
After being top for so long, Farnborough North End may have to settle for third despite strikes from Paul Griffiths, Steve Lloyd and Ian Jopling in their 3-1 home win against Portchester.
Otterbourne were beaten 3-1 by Micheldever, Gareth Mead bagging the Otters' consolation.
