THE Solent Protection Society has voiced fears about plans which could see the Red Funnel ferry terminal at East Cowes moved next to the Shrape Breakwater.
The plans developed by the South East of England Development Agency are part of a proposed multi-million-pound redevelopment of East Cowes over the next 15 years.
The society warns that although relocating the yard would be desirable, the new yard would be unsightly when viewed from the sea.
A society spokesman said: "There have been many proposals for marinas in East Cowes over the years. The reason why none has gone ahead is the unalterable fact that this is the lee side of Cowes harbour and in the great majority of gales, protection is essential in the form of a break-water, for which the East Cowes Project appears to make no proposals."
