RHYTHMIC SOUTH'S seniors have struck gold for the second time in three years at the British Goup Championships at Burton-on-Trent.
The quintet, pictured right, of Laura Bridgewater, Olivia Carmichael, Zuleika Jeffries, Olivia Pierce and Alice Watson (reserve Ruth May-Johnson) caught the judges' eye with their imaginatively choreographed hoops and ribbons routine, devised by Rhythmic South's head coach, Ellen Watson.
The Southampton club last won the senior title in 2003 and there was no competition last year because of an international taking place in the UK.
The seniors' success was supported by two silver medals further down the age scale - the under-10 hoop group of Joan Chen, Charlotte Collinson, Amy Curren and Lilly Morgan (reserves Emilie Topley, Emma Frith) and the under-12 rope group of Cathy Chen, Megan Pawsey, Amy Russell, Shona Waley (reserve Chloe Webber).
The under-12s is a new age-group for this year and Rhythmic South's girls did particularly well considering they have only been training together for six weeks.
The club extends a warm welcome to any girls, aged five upwards, wanting to try rhythmic gymnastics.
Training takes place at Cantell Sports Hall, Violet Road, Southampton on Saturday mornings (10-11.15am).
