THE Corn Exchange, in Newbury, hosts the world premiere of Taking Flight, an aerial dance, on Thursday, May 5, at 7.45pm.
Taking Flight, by Gravity & Levity, fuses three live pieces of aerial dance with three short films to create an intimate and engaging journey, where the audience accompanies the performers as they traverse through disorienting territory in which the dancers' relationship to the floor is substantially altered.
The dancers move with ease and fluidity at perplexing angles and vertigo-inducing heights, combining solos with exquisite partner work.
Gravity & Levity was set up in 2004 by performer and director Lindsey Butcher, to develop the creative and expressive potential of aerial dance. She trained at the London School of Contemporary Dance and has performed for the Royal Opera, English National Opera and Walker Dance/Park Music. Lindsey has also worked at Ra-Ra Zoo Circus Theatre, where she trained in aerial/acrobatic and juggling skills. In 2003, she won the Jerwood Award for Circus.
Last May, Gravity & Levity was commissioned to produce the short film, From Where I'm Standing, which is included in Taking Flight.
Tickets, priced at £11, with concessions available, can be purchased from the box office on 01635 522733 or online at www.cornexchangenew.com
