After an absence of two years, during which time they shared bowling facilities with the Friary Club, Hyde Abbey returned to their own green in the North Walls Recreation Ground on Saturday April 23.
The official opening was carried out by the deputy mayor of Winchester, Cllr Neil Baxter, who was accompanied by the president of Hyde Abbey, Eric Craig.
A large number of members were present to try out the newly laid green for the first time. However, the weather prevented actual bowling taking place. Members at least enjoyed a social get-together with excellent refreshments provided by the ladies of the club.
The club has been pleased to welcome a number of new members this year. They are always happy to see anyone who thinks they might like to try their hand at the game. The club can provide all necessary equipment, and a qualified coach is available to give advice. Free introduction sessions are being held every Monday and Friday evening during May.
If you are thinking of taking the game up, why not come along and give it a go? During the summer, the club will be participating in the Southampton & District men's leagues, the S & D ladies' league, the Whitchurch triples league, and a number of friendly matches. The usual full programme of club competitions will take place as well as the opportunity to play casual social bowls.
