THE chairman of the True Saints Association supporters group believes Rupert Lowe will face a rough ride from fans once 2004/05 is over - whether the club stay up or not.
Steve Godwin said: "The time for recriminations will start once the football has been put to bed, but Rupert Lowe is in a very tenuous position.
"His future must be on the line. He has said it's a results-driven business and he must rise or fall on the success of Saints."
Godwin insists the fans will turn up for the Norwich game on Saturday desperate to get behind the team.
"The fans have got behind the team all season, and I have no doubt they will get behind the team during the game on Saturday," he said.
"But as early as after the Norwich game if we don't get the result we need, the gloves will come off for a lot of people."
Beautiful South fanzine editor Daren Wheeler is also philosophical about the remaining three games.
"Am I still a believer? It's hard," he said. "We've only got 28 points approaching May and that's disgraceful.
"Part of me has to ask - if that's all the points we have got do we deserve to go down?
"We are paying the price for under-investment.
"We should have built on what we had after reaching the cup final. The Saints fans rose to the challenge but it was a step too far for the club and the opportunity was missed.
"There's only been three or four players that have recently shown the attitude we need - Jamie Redknapp, Crouchy, Quashie, Phillips.
"As for the others ... the most galling thing about relegation is that the players who took you down will be the first ones to want to leave."
It would be nice to get an apology from the club.
I'm certainly not going to pay my season ticket money up front so quickly if we go down, and I'd call on every other season ticket holder to do the same.
The club needs to be told that we're not happy.
The performance at Pompey was the worst I have seen for a long while. It was extraordinary.
The players had a great chance but failed to take it.
Think about it - in what other job could you perform poorly for 95 per cent of the year then get a great chance like last Sunday to put in a good performance and a lot of people would have forgiven and forgotten what had gone before?
