BATTLING residents in a busy suburban street are calling for safety improvements before a child is injured or killed.
Families in Mollison Rise, Whiteley, have handed a petition to both the parish council and Winchester City Council and are awaiting responses. They are demanding that double yellow lines be installed along their road, stopping staff from surrounding companies clogging up their street and reducing visibility.
Justin Chard, pictured right with fellow residents, said young children often run out between parked cars into the road.
"We have tried getting a response from Winchester City Council four times since January because the situation is so dangerous," he said.
"There are a lot of young children and mums with pushchairs around here and you often cannot see them for the parked cars.
"This is of great concern to us but it's taking so long to see action."
Pat Wright, chairman of Whiteley Parish Council, has asked that a letter be written to Winchester City Council asking for urgent action.
A Winchester City Council spokesman said the authority was aware of the problem.
He said: "Last November we introduced parking restrictions to nearby Parkway and that moved the problem to the surrounding roads.
"We have carried out a consultation and 95 per cent of residents in Mollison Rise do want double yellow lines. It does take some time. There is a list of work that needs to be done and it will be some months yet."
