HAMPSHIRE-BASED motocross star Billy Mackenzie achieved another personal best with third place overall in the Grand Prix of Portugal at Agueda, near Porto on Sunday.
Torrential rain left the track treacherously slippery and the young Scot fell twice in the first of the MX2 races, but still managed to bring the Bike It Dixon Yamaha home in tenth place.
There was much better for the young man from Whitely second time out when he fought through from tenth position to finish runner-up behind the Italian Alessio Chiodi.
The result moves Mackenzie up to sixth in the world standings.
Steve Dixon, team manager of the Swanmore-based Bike It Dixon Yamaha team, said: "Bill was looking to build on last week's victory in Spain and did that. He proved that the result in Spain was no fluke, no flash in the pan."
But Mackenzie's teammate, Gordon Crockard, again failed to get among the points.
