JUST when you thought you had heard enough of the chart-topping Is this the Way to Amarillo, a group of youngsters from Winchester's St Cross are planning to do a six-mile sponsored walk -- chanting the hit song all along the route!
School friends Oliver Fletcher, Troy Kilgannon and Ben Cook, all aged 11, and 10-year-old twins, Sam and Josh Morgan, who all attend St Faith's Primary School, and are big fans of the Comic Relief song since seeing the video on TV, decided to do the walk to help victims of the tsunami.
The money raised will go to the Ragalla Aid Project, which is helping to build an orphanage at Trincomalee, in Sri Lanka, which was affected by the disaster.
The youngsters, joined by friends and family, begin their walk this Sunday afternoon at 1pm at Five Bridges Road, and will don brightly-coloured shirts and suits to get into the spirit of the song, which has been at number one for six weeks.
They are inviting people to join them on a round route of the city along St Cross Road through the city, down to King Alfred's statue, and back to St Cross.
"After this Sunday, I don't think I'll want to hear that tune ever again," said Oliver's mother, Kerry, 34.
"I'm quite envious of my grandmother who's 93 and deaf!
"There's going to be four generations of us with my grandmother leading the way, swinging her arms."
Kerry, who lives at Hewlett Road, said the children had already raised £95 by singing the song to passers-by in the High Street last Saturday.
Through sponsorship and collections on the day, she said she hoped that figure would increase to between £400 and £500.
