YOUNGSTERS living in rural communities are to benefit from a new theatre outreach scheme.
The Theatre Royal has taken over the Winchester Rural Youth Theatre and is hoping to introduce drama and dance to young people in Denmead, Waltham Chase, Alresford, Stanmore and Swanmore.
Fiona Burn, chief executive of the Theatre Royal, said: "I am delighted that we have been given this wonderful opportunity to extend our drama and dance classes for young people in the rural communities of Winchester.
"It is very exciting that we are able to develop this aspect of our award-winning education programme further afield by managing existing Winchester Rural Youth Theatre Groups."
Winchester City Council and Hampshire County Council have supported the move with financial assistance.
Education manager, Nicola Peacock, said: "All the groups will have the opportunity to perform at the Winchester Hat Fair in July, which is a fantastic project to be involved in."
