TOTTONIANS had to settle for fifth place in London Three South-West.
But they were disappointed not to have finished their best-ever season on a high as they fell 19-5 at Farnham.
Totts started well, scoring an excellent try within two minutes of the start through Richard Buck, but were made to pay for midfield errors and found themselves 14-5 down at the break before conceding another late on.
Skipper Paul Goodall was saddened not to have closed with a win but praised his team - and the squad as a whole - for what has been a more than decent year.
"We cannot be too disappointed with the season, but we didn't perform today," he felt.
Havant beat Southend 37-26 in National Division 3 South but could not step up any higher than seventh in the table as other results conspired against them.
Two tries from Neil McGovern set them on their way but they repeated their habit of slipping away at a comfortable 30-7 to allow the visitors a sniff of a chance, holding out to record their 12th win of a commendable campaign.
Elsewhere, end-of-season friendly matches included Millbrook's elder statesmen winning the inter-club battle with their first XV 34-17, thanks to a brace from Mike Goodridge and four other singular scores.
Paxton Pumas came off second best in their dual fixture with old adversaries Fareham Heathens, with the first team slipping 22-12 and the fledgling seconds being mauled by a strengthened hosts third XV 75-5.
Southampton Vets as they went down to a rare defeat, 22-17 to a New Milton & District XV, but they clocked up their 1,000th point of an amazing year in the process.
