TEAM SOUTHAMPTON Athletics Club have a series of summer coaching sessions lined up to help discover the next Roger Black or Kriss Akabusi.

The course, which youngsters can join at any time, is aimed at bringing new members, aged 11-15, into the club and introducing them to track and field.

Schools can send pupils to sessions specially timed to prepare them for the Hampshire Schools' Championships.

Groups will be ten-12 per coach. Parents must accompany their child to the first session to complete registration forms in the Team Southampton portakabin at Southampton Sports Centre, Bassett.

Sessions run every Tuesday and Thursday from April 26 to July 14 (6.30pm-7.45pm). Sunday sessions are also planned.

Athletes will be coached in running, jumping and throwing on a rota basis. Each session will involve a warm-up, a main event and fun relays.

Winchester & District AC had a memorable 25th Flora London Marathon with virtually all their athletes posting personal best times.

Andy Greenleaf was the club's quickest in two hours 33 minutes, with Julian Mann not far behind in 2.39. Les Wrangle and Steve Goodwin were next in 3.01 ahead of Andy Carton 3.08, Matt Taylor 3.09, Andy Tremain 3.11, Bernard Bennett 3.56 and Mike Lush in 5.06.

Three Winchester women broke the three-hour barrier, Karen Hazliit clocking 2.55, Katherine Jones 2.56, and Georgie Benson 2.57. Behind them came Sara Bishopp in 3.01, Harriet Bush 3.20, vet-50 lady Joy Radford 3.28, Sarah Reid 3.33, Carina Kane 3.51, Claire Warwick-Smith 3.59, Sheelaghe Evans 4.00, Sharon Price 4.10, Julia Whether 4.13 and Alison Harper 5.06.
