AFTER a hard day cutting hair at Pepe's, the family run shop in Shirley, Dan Zagarolli enjoys a few frames in his local club at Chandler's Ford.
And one of the county's few ex-pro players showed he's still got talent after knocking in a 139 break, the highest in the history of the club's £2,500 series.
Zagarolli, who had already beaten Ken Everett 2-0, giving a 74-point start per frame, lost the first frame against 15-year-old hotshot Aaran Newman. But Newman stayed in his chair in frame two while the Italian hairdresser amassed his monster break in ten minutes.
Newman still used his 67-point start to win the deciding frame and went on to beat Chandler's Ford's Danny Gallant to reach the final, collecting £52. Paul Whapshott from Hedge End also won £52 and hops over Nick Allen into second spot on the money board behind Tim Dunkley.
A warning for banging balls on the table was followed by one of the finest breaks in the history of Southampton junior snooker as 16-year-old Ryan Mears responded by knocking in his first competitive century in a first-round win over Lee Roling, 14.
Mears's good form continued as he dispatched Jordan Sainsbury, 11, and Ollie Tydeman, 15 to reach the final of week three of the £1,000 U21 Roll-Up. And he fought back from 2-1 down to beat current leader Alex Dunkley, 16, to register his first-ever final win and close to within four points of the top spot.
But there was more controversy as a dispute over a moving ball in frame four forced the organisers to demand a re-rack.
Bursledon's Dunkley knocked in a 55 in his last-eight win over Dan Hildyard, 14, and saw off Jason Hildyard, 12, in the semis. Stewart Crosswell, 17, beat a much improved John Smith, 16, in the plate final.
The Southern England Senior Cuestars was split between Poole and High Wycombe this week. Dan Hildyard traveled north and knocked in a 55 to beat Richard Pinner in the plate final to stay in the top ten.
North Baddesley's Mark McLean, 20, beat Eastleigh's Mike Finn, 19, in the last four at Poole but lost in the final to Adam Guyatt. McLean picked up £60 and Finn £25.
Dan Hildyard and Nick Jennings still top the under-19 premier league. Tom Davies also won three of his four frames to go third while Joe Finch won group two.
Lewis White lost his lead in the under 13 Premier when Glen Shefford won all four matches in the top group to narrowly leadn. Aaron Muray and Toby Shefford held onto their Premier places. Jacob Collier won three to reach the top six.
