KING'S Somborne's historic centre has been nominated for inclusion in a highly specialised book on Britain's 100 greatest bus stops.
The bus stop in the centre of the village has been nominated as 'a lovely village stop' and certainly, there is much to interest the bus passenger waiting to board the Wilts and Dorset Bus Company service between Winchester and Salisbury.
Straight in front of the stop is the village war memorial, a little way along is the village pub complete with magnificent topiary, and the school and church are also in close proximity - as well as a traditional style old red telephone box.
The man behind the book is a lecturer from the West Midlands, Jim Judges, who believes that bus stops are a much loved feature of English life and who says he met his wife at a bus stop.
"Bus stops have a special place in many people's lives," said Mr Judges, from Sutton Coldfield. "Everyone seems to have a story about a bus stop and I want to let people tell those stories."
