PLAYTIME has been spoiled for dozens of youngsters at a special school in Hampshire after vandals broke in and smashed their toys.
Equipment worth hundreds of pounds including toy cars and a Wendy house was ruined during the attack at St Francis School in Fareham.
Staff at the school, which caters for nearly 100 two to 19-year-olds with special needs, were also shocked to find yobs had stamped on the roof of a storage shed, causing yet more damage.
Deputy head teacher Simon Harmer said: "It really is very disheartening when you come in and find that.
"It's a shame as we have put some different equipment in that area for the children we have with severe physical disabilities.
"We cleared out the shed last week, taking out toys that were no use, and things we saved have been damaged.
"We're normally lucky and don't get targeted because people seem to understand the nature of the children we have. But now and again you just get mindless vandalism."
Anyone with any information is urged to call Fareham police on 0845 045 4545 or the anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
