THIS is a powerful, perceptive and moving play about marriage, its destruction and re-evaluation.
Written by William Nicholson, the author of the wonderful Shadowlands, this excellent production features Mark McGann as Albie Steadman, a middle-aged doctor who decides to leave his comfortable home and family for voluntary work in the Sudan with another doctor, with whom a relationship is developing.
Kidnapped, imprisoned and facing execution, Albie realises that his family were a support, not a burden . . . but would they want him back?
This thought-provoking play poses one of life's core questions - are we responsible for others' happiness?
Nine fine actors deliver an insightful script about contemporary issues. The set and props are symbolic and effective, but the scene changes with eerie lighting and atmospheric music have the actors - rather than stagehands - shifting the props. Runs until May 7.
