CHRIS Tremlett reckons his performance at Hove was not his best of the season - never mind his career.
Tremlett's 6 for 44 against Sussex yesterday just pipped Billy Taylor's 6 for 45 against Gloucestershire as the best individual Hampshire bowling performance so far.
But the paceman reckons he bowled better at the Rose Bowl last week, when he recorded the more modest match figures of 2 for 94.
He said: "I bowled better against Gloucestershire, but there are always some days when you bowl really well and don't take any wickets.
"It's just that the nicks have gone my way so far in this match."
Tremlett believes he has also benefited from concentrating on consistency rather than pace.
"I haven't bowled as quick, just quick enough, but have been making sure I use my height a bit more and it's worked.
"I've also tried to change a few things in my action to put less pressure on my feet and make it a bit smoother.
"If I want to step up the pace on some days and bowl a bit quicker I can do but the main thing, especially on flat wickets, is just to hit the right areas ball after ball and I've done that well in the last couple of games."
Sussex were 245 for 6 at tea but Tremlett is confident of a second successive championship win following Hampshire's performance with bat and ball in yesterday's final session.
He added: "We started off a bit rusty but we were a lot tighter after lunch and bowled really well.
"The wicket's very slow so I've bowled a fuller length than usual and the ball has come out pretty well.
"But it's generally a good wicket and I'm sure our batters can get a good score on the board."
