HAMPSHIRE Schools' U16 girls have matched the boys' achievement of reaching the ESFA NUT Inter-County Competition final.

They got through with a 3-1 victory over Kent Schools at Wellington Sports Ground - the third semi-final between the sides in four years, with each team having previously won once.

Kent controlled the first half, going ahead through Rebecca Scott after a crisp, three-pass move.

Rowena Burnfield (Test Valley) and Sam Stone (Warblington) had to be at their best in the Hampshire defence to keep the visitors at bay.

Spurred on by a stern half-time lecture from manager Vanessa Raynbird, Hampshire equalised two minutes into the second half through Zoe Nash (Hayling).

Nash then struck again, leaving three defenders in her wake on a fine 30-yard run, before Vicki Adamson (Neville Lovett) netted Hampshire's third aided by good approach work from Alice Wheeler (Hamble).

Hampshire's girls now meet last year's winners Merseyside (details to be confirmed). The boys travel to the Reebok Stadium to meet Greater Manchester on Thursday, May 5.
