IT was party time at Cue T's Snooker Club in Marchwood last night as their Pool team celebrated a magnificent Waterside Pool Winter League and Cup double - in only their second season.
After winning eight and drawing one of their ten league matches, Cue T's have just been crowned Division 2 champions. But their most remarkable success came in the recent Waterside League Knockout Cup where they toppled undefeated Division 1 champions Legion (Fawley) in remarkable final.
Cue T's went into the final itself as massive underdogs against the Division 1 side in a best-of-nine matches at the Hampshire Yeoman. And it was the strongly fancied Legion side who quickly galloped into a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead.
Captain Stuart Wingrove pulled a frame back for the Division 2 outfit then Legion won the next game to move within a single frame of glory.
But Neil Holland and Wingrove triumphed in their doubles match, with Holland also winning his singles clash to pull the scores back to 4-3. In a now tension-packed atmosphere, David Whitcher held his nerve to square a tense final at 4-4.
That left Mark Broadbent and Adam Noke to fight out the decisive final frame and, when Broadbent sunk the black ball to snatch victory, he was immediately buried under a pile of joyous team-mates.
