business Link Wessex is staging two free e-business events to give owners of small and medium-sized enterprises the opportunity to discover how the internet and other emerging technologies can benefit their business and productivity.

The first evening event will be at The ARK Conference Centre, in Basingstoke, on April 25, followed by a second at the Botley Grange Hotel, in Botley, on May 5.

The events will consist of four key workshops where industry experts will explore various ways in which the internet can be used to improve businesses.

Topics will include website design and the importance of a professionally designed site, what to look for when purchasing a website, the business benefits of broadband and search engine optimisation.

James Cope, e-business co-ordinator at Business Link Wessex, said: "Statistics show that there has been a dramatic increase in the amount of businesses that are connected to the internet, but that's just the beginning.

"In a large number of cases, owners of SMEs may not be aware of the full potential the internet has to enhance business performance.

"These events will give a thorough understanding of the options that are available, provide attendees with an opportunity to network with like-minded people and gain friendly and impartial advice."

According to research by the Office of Communications, last year 68 per cent of SMEs had internet access. The Business Link Wessex workshops are designed to ensure that these businesses tap into their full online potential.
