VISITOR numbers at Bursledon's historic windmill soared by 1,220 last year - a 15 per cent increase on 2003.
The trend is continuing, with figures for the first three months of this year showing 1,383 people looked over Hampshire's only working windmill compared to 1,204 in the first three months of last year.
Curator, Dr Gavin Bowie, told members of the windmill's joint management committee that last year's increase in visitor numbers could mainly be explained by extra days that the attraction was opened in the spring, summer and autumn school holidays.
However, visitor figures could be hit this year by work needed at the windmill to improve access for disabled visitors and to repaint and restore the sails.
