GRAHAM Kemp has a heartbreaking decision to make in the next few days about whether to stay on as manager of troubled Brockenhurst.
The Grigg Lane boss, pictured, is confident the Badgers will stay in the Wessex Division 1 - despite last night's anticipated resignations of chairman Brian Small and president Mike Kimber.
But he fears the cost of doing up their run-down Grigg Lane headquarters will eat heavily into the playing budget and undo all his good work of the last two seasons.
Now, with two possible job opportunities coming up elsewhere, he is in two minds whether to stay put or seek pastures new.
Kemp confessed: "It's going to be a massive effort for a new manager or myself to convince the players to stay now. By this time I should have signed on 15 or 20 people for next year, but everything's up in the air at the moment.
"I love this club, but they need to convince me that staying on is a viable option."
When Kemp took over the Brock reins in September 2003, he inherited a struggling side who had shipped 33 goals in their first seven league matches and were heading for relegation. But he lead them to a respectable ninth-place finish and, although league results have dipped this season, the Badgers equalled their best ever FA Cup run, beating Lewes of the Conference South.
"I've had two very good years at the club, but I've built a team from scratch once and I don't know if I can do it again," said Kemp, who has promised to make a decision by the end of next week.
"The person I feel bad about is Brian Small, who's been absolutely brilliant."
Although the Wessex League say the Badgers have extensive work to do if they are to remain a Division 1 club next season, Kemp says the cost of repairs is nowhere near the £300,000 reported.
"As at most non-league clubs people rally round and get things done. I'm not worried because I know everything will be done that needs doing and there's no doubt in my mind Brockenhurst will be playing Wessex football next season, he said."
Wessex title chasers Lymington & New Milton are going Continental tomorrow (7.45) with a friendly against Finnish Division 2 professional outfit VASA IFK, who are over as guests of Southampton for the FA Youth Cup final. Admission is £4 adults, £2 children and concessions.
