HAMPSHIRE professionals are hoping to make it third time lucky when they meet their amateur counterparts in the annual Pinflag Golf Events match at Blackmoor on Sunday, May 1.
Kevin Weeks's county amateur team have dominated the first two matches in a series launched in 2003 but with reigning champion Mark Thistleton and England international Martin Young both unavailable, they face their toughest task yet against a professional team thirsting for revenge.
Teenagers Jon Watt and Sam Hutsby are called up by the amateurs, along with experienced players Andy Bow and Tim Markwick.
New HPGA captain Philip Bryden has been able to select a strong team, including former European campaigners in Ron Edwards, Kevin Saunders, Mark Treleaven and Scott Watson.
Alresford based Pinflag Golf Events, who have sponsored the match since its inception, see it as an excellent vehicle to promote its ever-expanding range of sporting memorabilia and the services it provides for local charities. Teams:
Amateurs: Kevin Weeks (captain), Andy Bow, Sam Hutsby, Jon Young, Jon Watt, Ryan Henley, Chris Kilgannon, Stuart Archibald, Sam Boyes and Tim Markwick.
Professionals: Philip Bryden (captain), Gary Stubbington, Kevin Saunders, David Porter, James Ablett, Russell Tate, Mark Treleaven, Rob Edwards, Scott Watson and Steve Clay.
The first of the singles matches tees off at 10.30am. Spectators are welcome.
