Sir.-I read The Basingstoke Extra, April 13, and saw that Gazette Newspapers is helping in the search for alternative names for the Top of the Town.
I won the Citizen of the Year award at last year's A Place to be Proud of Awards, which were organised by, among others, the council and The Gazette.
It was a fantastic honour for me to receive that award, both personally and for my family as well.
This award, if he had been alive today, would, and should, have gone to one man without fail, and that was dear old Arthur Attwood.
I had the pleasure of knowing him, and his devotion to our town, over many years.
Could the Top of the Town not be called Attwood Square or Place in his honour?
I am sure it would be backed by everyone in the town who have such fond memories of him.
