POLICE have urged Isle of Wight residents to be extra-vigilant after two bogus builders targeted householders.
The men have already duped two residents in Shanklin and Sandown by turning up unannounced and carrying out repairs at an exorbitant cost.
In one case last Wednesday, an elderly Shanklin woman was forced to pay £850 for half a morning's work.
It is believed the bogus pair use two types of van. The first is an unmarked, M-reg van. The second has the registration T 447 ONG and the name APEX Roofing on its sides.
If anyone is approached unexpectedly by builders who insist on carrying out unwanted work they are advised to ring 999 while the men are working.
