THE Mayor of Winchester got to grips with some of her more unusual constituents on a visit to Marwell Zoo this week.
The mayor, Councillor Cecily Sutton, took a trip to the zoo to see how the park's endangered animal breeding programme was coming on.
While there she took some time out to help feed Marwell's ring-tailed lemurs, though they seemed to be taking as much of an interest in her as she did in them.
Lemurs come from the island of Madagascar off the East African coast and are facing a threat from destruction of their natural habitat for agriculture.
Their name means 'ghost' in the Madagascan language and they are a well-recognised animal due to their long fluffy tails, which they use for everything from communication to climbing.
