A NO presents ruling meant that Andover couple Ernie and Irene Eagling could concentrate on enjoying a family get-together for their diamond wedding anniversary.
The Stourhead Close pair were reunited with family members from all over the country for a special celebration meal on 31 March in honour of 60 years of marriage.
Ernie and Irene, who are both in their eighties, were so delighted to see their sons and daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchild that they requested no presents on the day - just good company. The last family get-together was at Christmas, so it was lovely to take them out to lunch," Ernie said.
Ernie and Irene met in 1942 when they were both living in London. Ernie was working for a firm that made parts for Spitfires and Irene was in the Army.
One of their most enduring memories of the wartime blitz was watching a play and running out when a V2 bomb was dropped a mile away.
