THE COUNTY relay Championships were held last weekend at Portsmouth where Winchester & District AC came away with a double first as both Men's and Women's teams won.
The Senior Women ran the first event of the day when new member 16-year-old India Lee took the first leg, and had an excellent run to lead home all of the teams.
Winchester maintained first place throughout the relay through team members Georgina Benson, Bev Edwards, and Jan Ross. Lee produced the fastest time of the day for U20s, while Benson recorded the fastest Seniors' time.
Following the success of the Women, the two Senior Mens teams and the Veteran Men's team were fired up to emulate them. Matt King had a good start, bringing the team home second. Nick Anderson then took over, storming around in the fastest time of the day, to hand over to Adem Omar, Ian Hardcastle, Mike Gregory and then finally Andy Greenleaf. Their lead over Southampton RC gradually increased to two minutes at the finish.
The B team also did well to finish sixth overall through George Hide, Jason Perry, Andy Woodcock, Marius Kwint, Andy Tremain and Alex Pritchard, who was fastest U20 on the day.
There were more medals when the Men's Veteran team ran with great enthusiasm to finish bronze medallists with Les Wrangle second fastest vet, Steve Goodwin, Mike Davies and Phil Manly.
