POINGDESTRES Pete Newman is in fine form at the moment storming home with two victories over the weekend.
Newman fished the Saturday Open on Greenridge Farm with the weights lower than of late due to Friday night's frost.
He finished well clear of the field with 67lb 2oz of carp on the pole and banded pellet from peg 15 on canal two from Simon Keefer in second place, with 40lb 2oz from peg ten on canal one.
Mick Kenny came home third with 32lb 4oz from peg 14 on canal two.
Others: Andy Potter 31lb 15oz pegged next to the winner on peg 15 on canal two, Simon Lynn, 31lb 8oz from peg 17 on canal two, and Colin Stark, 31lb 4oz from peg 19 on canal two.
Newman also fished the Cormorants Club match on Bashley's match lake for another victory, taking 46lb 15oz of carp on the pole and maggot. Bob Drew was second with 39lb 6oz and third was Steve Pomery (36lb 12oz).
Others: Richard Yeo 32lb 4oz and Gary Wright 31lb 14oz.
Sunday's open on Greenridge Farm saw weights getting better, with Mick Kenny taking 72lb 6oz of carp using pole, maggot and cat meat in the margins from peg 14 on canal two to finish well clear of the field.
Gary Naylor was second with 58lb from peg 18 on canal two and Dave Parvin third with 57lb 13oz from peg 20 on canal two.
Others: Dean Rowden 48lb 10oz from peg 17 on canal two, Marc Illingworth 47lb 2oz from peg 11 on canal one and Richard Self 44lb 12oz from peg 19 on canal two.
