SYDENHAMS Wessex League outfit Brockenhurst have called a special general meeting tonight to thrash out the club's future.
A recent SWL ground inspection left the Foresters with an extensive list of work to do to get their run-down Grigg Lane home up to scratch for next season.
Serious questions are now being asked whether the Badgers can stump up the money - believed to be in the region of £300,000 - to fund the improvements or whether they will pursue the controversial option of selling the ground and relocating.
The idea of uprooting the club has met with strong opposition and rumours are rife about a possible committee takeover by club members opposed to the sell off. It's believed most of the anti-relocation group are social club members who are not interested in football.
The situation is so serious that Badgers - one of the Wessex's founder members from 1986/7 - could even withdraw from the league and seek a future in the Hampshire 2004 League.
SWL chairman Alf Peckham, who himself carried out the ground inspection, said: "It would be a terrible shame if they pulled out. They have played top-flight football for years."
Giving his support to the relocation plans, Peckham added: "If Brockenhurst want a successful club, not only would the sell-off finance the club and keep it solvent, but it would benefit the whole community."
