DETECTIVES have arrested a man in connection with a raid on a Hedge End television firm.
A security guard was held hostage for more than three hours when five hooded raiders targeted the Tandberg Television premises on the isolated Strategic Park, as reported in later editions of yesterday's Daily Echo.
After bolt-cropping the padlock and chain at the entrance to the site, they forced their way on to the premises off Upper Northam Drive through the front door and then tied up the night-guard.
Police said the guard tried to tackle the raiders but was overpowered by the men, who were all wearing open-faced balaclavas.
They later made off with a haul of 20 laptop computers, three plasma televisions, an unknown quantity of cash from a cash machine on the premises and a company Toyota Corolla car.
Yesterday, Eastleigh police confirmed they had arrested a man who had been interviewed and released on
police bail pending further inquiries.
A spokesman said: "We are currently trying to identify other suspects in connection with the raid and we
still require help from the public."
Late yesterday, the stolen silver Toyota Corolla - registration HD54 CKL - had still not been traced. Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who saw the car leaving the premises at about 2.20am on Sunday or have seen it since.
They also want anyone in the area at the time who spotted a dark coloured saloon or hatchback vehicle, which the gang are thought to have used, to come forward.
The police spokesman said: "Whoever took these goods will be looking to dispose of them and we would like to hear from anyone who has been offered cheap laptops or plasma televisions."
All the stolen equipment was described as "unboxed and used" and the televisions had no leads.
Anyone who can help is asked to contact Eastleigh CID on 0845 045 4545.
