MORE than 600 Hampshire schoolchildren have learned how to cope in an emergency, at an event at Fareham's Fort Nelson.
Youngsters from schools across the Lee-on-the-Solent and Gosport areas attended the annual junior citizen event.
Agencies teaching them how to cope in real-life situations included Hampshire police, fire and ambulance services, the Coastguard and the prison service.
Organiser Sue Rutherford said: "Each pupil took part in six hands-on scenarios, some involving role-play, which will hopefully bring home the reality of possible everyday situations and what they should do if such an occasion arises."
The Year 6 children were from St John's C of E Primary, Peel Common Junior, Holbrook Primary, Lee-on-the-Solent Junior, Rowner Junior, Elson Junior, Leesland Junior, Haselworth Primary, Marycourt, Newtown Primary and Gomer Junior.
The event, organised by Gosport Borough Council, continues throughout the week.
