HAMSPHIRE-BASED motocross stars Gordon Crockard and Billy Mackenzie had mixed fortunes in the first world championship event, the Grand Prix of Flanders at Zolder.
Crockard suffered a twisted neck when another rider landed on top of him in practice, but the Bike It Dixon Yamaha rider still managed 12th position in race one of the MX1 class. The injuries caught up with the Ulsterman in race two, however, when he was forced to retire.
But for fading back brakes, Mackenzie might have managed better than eighth place in the second of the MX2 races. Earlier he had stalled the engine when 16th and just missed out on the points, finishing 21st.
