THE National Trust has organised a free walk to the nearby Winnall Moors nature reserve next Sunday.
The walk will leave the City Mill in Bridge Street, at 10.30am. An expert from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust will lead the trip to the reserve which is home to otters, voles and kingfishers. The walk which follows easy, level paths will last about 90 minutes.
There is no charge but on return, walkers are welcome to visit the mill and see it in action producing wholemeal flour.
For this optional mill visit the normal admission charges apply: Adults £3, Children £1.50, Families £7.50, National Trust and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust members free.
The NT has recently formed a partnership with the wildlife trust and already new displays on the River Itchen and its wildlife have been introduced for visitors to enjoy in 2005. The trust intends to develop the mill as a "gateway" to their Winnall Moors reserve only a few hundred yards from the city centre.
