AFC Target did Nursling a massive favour on Saturday. They defeated Classic Comrades 3-1 to virtually assure Nursling the Premier Division title.
One win from their four remaining matches will secure the title for a Nursling side that managed a narrow 2-1 win at struggling Cadnam United.
A home victory against Brendon on Wednesday will lift them above Comrades to the title.
Ben Boyce scored twice for Target either side of a long-range shot from Owen Grant that ensured a shock defeat for long-time leaders Comrades in their final match. A hotly-disputed penalty, following an alleged handball, was converted by Paul Bailey.
And, barely a minute later, with Cadnam still smarting, Chris Brown added a second for champions-elect Nursling. Tommy Pegler replied to set up a tense last period but the outcome was never in any real doubt.
Cadnam meet Otterbourne Reserves tonight in a big relegation decider to see who joins Priory for the drop.
Otterbourne lost 3-2 against Wellow at the weekend. They trailed 3-0 to goals form Andy Gradidge, Paul Traies and Lee Palmer on his first team debut. The Otters reduced the arrears thanks to a John Allen double but Wellow held on.
