HAMPSHIRE'S Radio 1 DJ Rob da Bank has revealed to the Daily Echo that he tried to sign Dolly Parton and Kate Bush to perform at his festival on the Isle of Wight.

Talks got as far as Rob meeting up with the two singers' management, but his hopes were eventually dashed due to the two singers having other commitments.

"It's my dream line-up to have them both performing, I'm a massive fan," said Rob, who took over the late John Peel's slot on Radio 1.

"We're working on some other cool line-ups though and will be announcing them over the next few months."

Rob launched the Bestival - a three-day long music festival on the Isle of Wight every September - last year. Artists that performed at the 2004 event included Basement Jaxx and Fatboy Slim.

Artists already confirmed for this year's Bestival, supported by Radio 1, are Soul Wax, 2 Many DJs, British Sea Power and The Magic Numbers.

As well as bands to watch festival goers will also get to enjoy the new J.D Set Lounge - an acoustic arena with intimate performances from some of the hottest live acts around.

"I love the south coast. That's why I do the festival at the Isle of Wight.

"The south has so much going for it, yet it needs something to push it forward.

"Everyone looks to London. I want to put something back there. We're going to be putting on regular nights at the Lizard Lounge before the Bestival," said Rob, who also hosts the Thursday night One Music show on Radio 1.

This year's festival runs at the Robin Hill Country Park on September 9 to 11. A full weekend ticket is £89. Contact 08700 667753.
