TOM COLLING mixed pain with joy as Southampton Saints defeated Welsh club Newport in a British League South West encounter.
In the final heat the 15-year-old was forced off his bike THREE times!
First Newport's Kieran Jones flattened him, then Colin Simmonds brought him down.
And Jones was exluded for repeating the trick when the race was re-started.
The race was completed after four attempts with Colling and Shaun Woodhouse earning a 7-2 to complete Saints' 108-70 success.
The Saints scored a 7-3 heat win through Nathan Harris and Keith Snelling in the first race.
They were comfortable from that point, though Newport hit back immediately with a 6-4 from internationals Dave Carmichael and Nicky Evans over Southampton's pairing of World Masters champion Dave Murphy and Colling.
Southampton picked up 7-3s in the next two races on their way to a 50-39 half-time lead.
Southampton's scorers: Shaun Woodhouse 17+3 (5), Nathan Harris 17+2 (5), Dave Murphy 18 (5), Keith Snelling 14+2 (5), Tom Colling 12+3 (5), Ian Grinsell 11+1 (5), Gavin Wheeler 10+2 (3), Colin Wheeler 9 (3)
Tom Colling managed his first win in the final heat as Saints snatched a dramatic 65-64 win over Newport in a second-team fixture.
Going into the final race the Saints trailed by a single point, but Colling and Ian Grinsell claimed a 6-4 win.
Saints trailed 52-47 after ten heats but a good 7-3 from Paul Janaway and Tom Colling took Southampton to within a point with two races remaining.
