Re-release of Bresson's 1959 crime drama. Michel (Martin La Salle) lives in a cramped room in Paris, from where he plots to realise his dreams by picking the pockets of the city's well-to-do denizens and tourists.
Each day, he wanders the city, carefully separating people from their wallets, while avoiding the attentions of the police inspector (Jean Pelegri), who would love to put him behind bars.
A momentary distraction comes in the form of his friend's lover Jeanne (Marika Green). She tells him that his mother is dying but Michel is too absorbed in his nefarious activities to visit, daring the police to catch him in the act.
Showing exclusively for one week only at the Renoir cinema in London.
