JAMIE REDKNAPP surveyed his first few months as a Saints player and admitted: "It's gone better than I thought."
The free transfer signing from Tottenham in January has been a huge part of his father's St Mary's revolution that has seen Saints lift themselves out of the bottom three with seven games left.
It's a different story from when Jamie first came to the club and they were ensconced deep in the relegation zone - where they had been since the final week of November.
Redknapp jnr now admits he wasn't totally sure he had made the right move when he switched to St Mary's.
But, three months on, there's no doubt in his mind that he made a good decision.
He said: "When I first came here I did a press conference and said I'd really made the right decision, but in the back of mind I wasn't sure.
"I've no doubt I have now. I love it, the fans have really taken to me.
"I feel my football's been reasonably good but a relegation battle is difficult. But since Christmas we've played well.
"When I came here we were four or five points behind Palace and now we're ahead of them and out of the relegation zone.
"When I first signed I would definitely have taken that.
"We've got hard fixtures but we've given ourselves a chance."
Saints face a tricky-looking game at Blackburn tomorrow but Redknapp insists confidence has been boosted massively by their last away game - a 3-1 win at Middlesbrough which provided the club with their first away league success for almost a year.
He said: "If you keep getting beat away from home you get into a rut thinking it's going to happen every week and you don't feel you're going to get anything.
"Now, though, that confidence is there and we believe we can go to Blackburn and get a result.
"Of course it's going to be tough but we've given ourselves the confidence and belief we can do it, and that's key."
Redknapp added: "Blackburn have been in good form since Mark Hughes has been there.
"They play 4-5-1 and are very difficult to beat. Away they've been better and we'll be looking to capitalise on that. Away they play defensively and against Manchester United they played very tight at the back."
A decade ago Redknapp struck a last-minute last-day-of-the-season winner for Liverpool against Blackburn at Anfield on the day Rovers clinched the title.
"Blackburn have been one of my lucky teams to play against so fingers crossed it will continue," he remarked.
"I scored the winner there for Tottenham with a ridiculously fluky goal and I scored a few years ago on the last day.
"I've always had good results there and if we could get three points tomorrow it would be absolutely huge."
