THE SQUARE, 127 Above Bar Street, Southampton.

THE Square has to be Southampton's largest pub, as well as the most popular at weekends. It's usually packed to the brim, which is saying something because of its sheer size! It's huge. Of course, as most of you will already know, it used to be a cinema.

The Square boasts two floors of drinking and seating areas. The first floor is the most popular, with a huge square bar directly in the middle of the venue and a large dancefloor towards the back of the building. However, the only downside to the bar is the fact that there just never seems to be enough bar staff on hand.

Due to the popularity of The Square, you will get a hefty crowd around all four sides of the bar, all wanting to be served.

The top floor bar is a lot better, but smaller, and doesn't serve beer on tap. Bottled drinks and cocktails only, and these can be expensive.

The seating area around the whole venue is more than adequate, allowing clubbers to converse with one another and relax. However, the music is very loud, with many speakers hovering over tables, which can make it difficult to hold a conversation.

It is a very enjoyable venue for a night out in the city centre. The music caters for you dance lovers out there, with various DJs on different nights. Entry into the venue is free but be warned, the drinks are very pricey. The cocktails on offer are worth it though. My favourite has to be the Minty-Mudslide!
