MORE people in Tidworth and Ludgershall area need to sign up to Kennet District Council's garden waste collection scheme if the district is to improve its low recycling rate.

At present around 17 per cent of waste is recycled in the area - well below the Government's 'recycling and composting' target of 25 per cent for the 2005/06 financial year.

Cllr Peter Evans, who is also Kennet's spokesman for the environment is aiming to get the recycling message across to people who have yet to sign up for the garden waste collection scheme.

It's hoped the collection of green waste will enable Kennet to exceed the challenging targets set by the Government.
