DOMESTIC disasters form the basis for Chandler's Ford based MDG Players next production. The Methodist church group is performing the comedy Party Piece by Richard Harris.
The story follows Martin (Mike Slatcher) and Roma (Sarah Sullivan) as they throw a housewarming fancy dress party in their garden. Forgetting to take the meat out of the freezer, a fire and lack of guests are just some of the trials encountered along the way.
Meanwhile, next door isn't having it too easy either as the warring mother-in-law comes to stay.
Director Barbara Bound said: "This clever comedy has two parallel stories and a very clever twist. It's hilarious but also poignant."
Barbara, 37, has been a member of MDG Players for 20 years. She joined the group when she became a member of the church youth club and has remained an active participant ever since. This is the third play she has directed for the group.
"I did Agatha Christie before so a comedy is a very different ballgame. Timing is vital with this play," she said.
The play has seen MDG Players set crew, under the guidance of Mike Phillips, enjoying a real challenge of building two garden sets with huge attention to detail.
"There are sheds, drainpipes, flowers and even uPVC windows in the more modern house and sash windows in the older house backdrop," explained Barbara Bound.
Methodist Church Hall, Winchester Road, Chandlers Ford from Thrsday to Saturday April 16 at 7.30pm. Tickets: £5 Box office: 023 8026 1949.
