Gosport & Fareham and Portsmouth could do each other a huge favour in their respective London Division Two South issues if they pull off victories tomorrow.

The peninsula side have the tougher task, travelling to league leaders Barnes, while second-placed Portsmouth journey to Kent to meet troubled Tunbridge Wells, who sit just below Gosport in the table.

Victory for Sean Fanning's side will almost ensure their safety while throwing a lifeline to their local rivals, who lost an RFU appeal on Tuesday against their defeat to Dartfordians last month.

Portsmouth hope to welcome back skipper Mike Vine at scrum-half, if he is fit, while Grant Erskine slots back onto the wing having proved himself with five tries against Southampton II last weekend. Ogi Ofuasia is also back, as is Tim Snowden in the centre.

Gosport keep their cards close to their chest but are thought to be flying in Dave Goddard for the game to bolster the squad.

"It is a huge game for us and we are not just going there to make up the numbers," admits Fanning. "We can go there and win."

Havant want to bounce back immediately from the embarrassment of a trouncing by champions Barking when they face their final away day of the season at Westcombe Park.

Owen Cobbe and Owen Jones are likely to be recalled although Matt Morgan could miss his first game for nearly two years with a calf injury, meaning a start for Dylan Raubenheimer.

Director of rugby Adam King knows the pressure is off now all the promotion and relegation issues are resolved but still wants his side to search for the highest possible placing.

"It was very disappointing last week to see the side that I sent out concede 50 points in a half," he said. "I think that was a salutary lesson to the players that you cannot get by on ability alone at this level. You have to show desire to work hard."
